Elisabeth “Lisa” Schuster was called as the pastor of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McClure, in the summer of 2008. Pastor Lisa is a graduate of the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, who has also earned degrees from Central PA Business School and Penn State University. Formerly a high school English teacher, a remark made by a Penn State literature professor prompted Pastor Lisa to read the whole Bible; this became the impetus for her return to the Lutheran church as an adult and her subsequent calling to the ministry.
Born and raised in Dover, PA, Pastor Lisa has also lived in York, State College, Lancaster, and New Holland, PA. While attending Gettysburg Seminary, she met and fell in love with Matthew Schuster; they were married in May 2006 at Zion (Schaeffer’s) Lutheran Church near York. When Pastor Lisa was called to Trinity, McClure, her husband, Matthew, was called as pastor of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, Troxelville, and as interim pastor of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dormantown. Both Pastors Lisa and Matthew are members of the Society of the Holy Trinity, a pan-Lutheran ministerium which promotes fidelity to the promises made at ordination into the Church’s ministry. The Pastors Schuster enjoy hiking, reading, and being “staff” to their cat, Lily.
